About Palm Jumeirah
Palm Jumeirah is a stunning artificial island in Dubai, designed to look like a palm tree with sixteen branches. It's famous for its luxurious villas, amazing hotels, a water park, and beautiful beaches stretching for kilometers.
Though it's smaller than Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira, Palm Jumeirah was the first of its kind and has become a symbol of the UAE, much like the Burj Al Arab and the Burj Khalifa. It's a testament to Dubai's determination to achieve the extraordinary.
This man-made island extends five kilometers into the Arabian Gulf and took six years and $12 billion to build. Today, it covers 560 hectares, equivalent to about 600 football fields.
Construction of Palm Jumeirah started in August 2001. Instead of using artificial materials like concrete and steel, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum wanted the island to blend with the environment. So, 94 million square meters of sand were used.
Geographically, the island is in a fortunate location. The warm, shallow waters around it are protected from storms by the Strait of Hormuz. Still, a 3.5-meter breakwater was built around the island using 5.5 million square meters of rock for extra protection.
Today, Palm Jumeirah is home to luxurious hotels, yacht clubs, theme parks, shopping centers, and villas. There are about 1,400 villas and 2,500 apartments on the island.
Location
Palm Jumeirah has direct access to the Sheikh Zayed Road, so one can easily reach any point in Dubai by car in a short time.
- Al Maktoum International Airport – 30 minutes drive
- Dubai International Airport – 25 minutes drive
- Downtown Dubai – less than 20 minutes drive
- Mall of the Emirates – 10 minutes drive
To reach Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, you can take the metro. The closest metro station is Dubai Internet City, which is just a 5-10 minute drive from the island's entrance. Once on the island, you can get around by taxi or hop on the monorail. The monorail station is located at the base of the palm tree and offers a fantastic view of the island. The monorail train runs every 20 minutes, making it convenient for travelers to explore Palm Jumeirah.
Palm Jumeirah is well-equipped with everything you need. You'll find two shopping malls – Nakheel Mall and the Golden Mile Galleria, where you can shop for all your needs. There are also plenty of grocery stores like Spinneys, Choithrams, and Allday Fresh. If you're hungry, you can enjoy various cafes, restaurants, and fine dining spots such as KYO, Ossiano, Rue Royale, and Chuan.
For medical needs, there are several facilities available including Emirates Hospitals Clinic, Al Das Medical Clinic, and Slimpro. Families with young children have access to nurseries like Redwood Montessori Nursery, Asya’s Nursery, and Blossom Palm Jumeirah Nursery right on the island.
